This is a sewing pattern and how-to guide for a silk hat (top hat).
The silk hat, formally called a top hat, often appears in cosplay costumes.
This method is not the same as the original tailoring process, so please use it as a cosplay accessory only.
The structure is a simple base type, making it easy to modify.
You can adjust the height of the side or change the shape of the brim to match your desired image.
After printing, align and tape the joining lines, then cut along them. Seam allowances are already included in the pattern, so you can use it as is.
* If you add lining, cut two pieces each for the top and side. Sew them slightly smaller to make them fit neatly.
(1) Apply heavy fusible interfacing to the top, side, and brim.
(2) Sew the side pieces together into a loop and topstitch along the seam. Trim off any extra seam allowance.
(3) Sew the top and side together, then trim the seam allowance leaving about 2 mm.
(4) Sew the two brim pieces together along the seam line.
(5) Insert a wire into the bias position of the brim and cover it with bias tape.
* For a clean finish, tack the wire to the seam allowance to hold it in place.
(6) Sew the side and brim together.
