Overall Skirt Sewing Patterns | DRCOS Patterns & How To Make

This sewing pattern is for a full overall skirt.

The structure is similar to overalls, but the lower part is a skirt, so it is not as difficult to make as it may look.

There is no zipper, so this pattern is also suitable for people who do not like sewing zippers.

For the finished look, use topstitching thread in a color that contrasts with the fabric and add decorative topstitching.

You can also add your own decorative stitching to the back pockets to create a more original design.

After printing, align the pages along the guide lines, join them together, and cut out the pattern pieces. Seam allowances are included, so you can use the pattern as-is.

(1) Apply fusible interfacing to the extension pieces, belt, belt loops, and facings.

(2) Sew the left and right shoulder strap pieces together. Make the two straps as mirror images.

(3) Sew along the 5 mm line on the inside edge of each shoulder strap. Turn the straps right side out and press them into shape.

(4) Fold the outer edge of each shoulder strap inward by 1 cm (0.5 in) and secure it with decorative topstitching.

(5) Fold each side edge of the front bodice into a three-fold hem with an iron, then secure it with decorative topstitching. Make both sides symmetrical.

(6) Sew the center seam of the front bodice, finish the seam edges, and press the seam allowances to one side.

How to Serge / Overlock

(7) Fold the top edge of the front bodice into a three-fold hem with an iron, then secure it with decorative topstitching.

(8) Make the chest pocket, then attach it to the marked pocket position on the front bodice with decorative topstitching.

How to sew pockets

(9) Sew the center seam of the back bodice, finish the seam edges, and press the seam allowances to one side.

(10) Fold each side edge of the back bodice into a three-fold hem with an iron, then secure it with decorative topstitching.

(11) Sew the shoulder straps to the back bodice and finish the seam edges. Press the seam allowances downward and secure them with topstitching.

(12) Sandwich the back bodice between the back belt pieces and sew them together. Turn the belt right side out and press it into shape so that the back skirt can be inserted easily later.

(13) Sandwich the front bodice between the front belt pieces and sew them together. Turn the belt right side out and press it into shape so that the front skirt can be inserted easily later.

(14) Fold each extension piece along the marked fold line, sew along the marked stitching line, and press it into shape.

(15) Attach the extension pieces to the marked left and right positions on the back skirt.

*When attaching them, position each extension piece about 2 mm away from the marked stitching line.

(16) Make the back pockets and attach them to the marked pocket positions on the back skirt.

(17) Begin making the side pockets on the left and right sides of the front skirt.

How to sew Side pocket

*Complete the side pocket steps only up to the point just before sewing the front and back skirt side seams together.

*The pocket opening is curved. Clip the seam allowance where necessary before turning the fabric right side out so that the curve lies flat.

(18) Finish the outer edge of each facing. Press along the fold line, align the facing with the marked facing position on the front skirt, and secure it with topstitching.

*When attaching the facing, position it about 2 mm away from the marked stitching line. Make both sides symmetrical.

(19) Sew the center seams of both the front skirt and back skirt. Finish the seam edges, then press the seam allowances to one side.

(20) Before enclosing them inside the belt, baste the side pocket sections, facings, and belt loops in place.

(21) Finish the side edges of the skirt. Sew the side seams up to the marked sewing stop positions, then press the seam allowances open.

*Add bar tacks at the side edges of the pocket openings. Please refer to the side pocket tutorial.

(22) Finish the hem edge, fold it up by 3 cm with an iron, and stitch it with a sewing machine.

(23) Sandwich the skirt inside the belt and sew it in place. Finish by adding decorative topstitching around the belt.

(24) Make buttonholes at the marked buttonhole positions. Check the matching button positions, then sew on the buttons.

(25) Make the belt loops and sew them to the marked belt loop positions.

(26) Attach the overall buckles and buttons to complete the skirt.
